Advertisements determine the future of entertainment as OTT moves from an ad-free experience to one incorporating ads, much like what we have seen on linear cable. This change disrupts the viewing experience, and amidst all this, Prime Video joins the trend with no intention of resisting it.
Fans are hating it.
Advertisements test viewers’ patience, and from a monetary perspective, fans feel like they are being scammed. Though Netflix has been a pioneer of this model, they seem to be implementing it correctly.
But what is Prime Video doing?
They are showing ads in a random manner. Unlike most platforms, they aren’t just showing ads at the beginning of shows.
Fans are complaining that they are served with ads mid-show, but that’s not the most shocking update. Prime Video is showing ads even in the middle of a sentence. A good advertisement experience is the least that fans deserve.
Although advertisements are unavoidable right now, OTT platforms can make it somewhat better for fans. Controlled advertisements are something fans can appreciate, and Prime Video is definitely not providing that luxury.
