Akshay Kumar was one of the first A-list actors who opted for an OTT release last year with his much anticipated horror comedy – Laxmii on Disney+ Hotstar. It was a big decision coming from the superstar as his movie was being dubbed as THE movie which might bring back audience to the theatres. But the movie was met with disaster reviews and it seemed that from further there, there would be no OTT release for any Akshay Kumar starrer. But, a news broke out in the morning of 20th January stating the fact that Akshay Kumar’s upcoming spy thriller – ‘Bell Bottom’ is eyeing for an OTT release instead of a previously promised theatrical release.
This hot news has been doing rounds since the morning which also stated that the producers of the movie were eyeing for an April theatrical release earlier, but since Akshay’s ‘Sooryavanshi’ will also arrive on the same month, the makers decided to drop the plan for a big screens. While nothing official has come from the makers of the film, fans of Akshay Kumar aren’t happy with the news of a possible OTT release.
Here are some of the tweets –
Sir @akshaykumar its a request from your one of diehard fans, please don't release #BellBottom on OTT, it deserves theatrical release, so keep faith on fans & audiences. #BellBottom will emerge as BLOCKBUSTER in cinemas very soon. 🙏@jackkybhagnani @vashubhagnani @poojafilms

#BellBottom
No OTT release for this gem. It's a Spy thriller and it has charisma to give us goosebumps like baby does. So makers @jackkybhagnani and others release this movie in theatres and let the charm of theatres be back..— Raja Rahul (@Bihari__Raja) January 20, 2021
It is clearly visible that fans don’t want a brilliant genre movie to go wasted on an OTT platform as the movie holds the capability to engage huge number of footfalls if released in theatres. The trade pundits aren’t too supportive of the decision, seeing that the theatres are slowing gaining back its audience and it requires a movie like ‘Bell Bottom‘ now more than ever.
Also the fact that Akshay’s previous outing in OTT market didn’t go exactly as planned and thus fans are demanding a big NO for the possible OTT release and want the movie to arrive in big screens.
Again, nothing official has been out as of yet and the talks are in the initial stages with Amazon Prime Video. We have to wait and see how the situation pans out.
