It’s been twelve years since the theatrical release of Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don 2’, which was a sequel to the hit 2006 reboot of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer 1978 movie of the same name. Ever since ‘Don 2’ came out in 2011, there have been talks about Shah Rukh Khan’s return as the titular anti-hero in ‘Don 3’. But several recent reports about the eagerly anticipated sequel suggested that Ranveer Singh will essay the lead role in ‘Don 3’ instead of SRK.
And now, just a few moments back, the director of ‘Don’ (2006) and ‘Don 2’ Farhan Akhtar has finally made an announcement for ‘Don 3’. And the announcement teaser for ‘Don 3’ has confirmed the earlier reports. The teaser mentions ‘A new era begins’, thereby implying that a new lead hero will play the role of Don in the next installment of the ‘Don’ franchise.
As per multiple reports, it is almost confirmed that Ranveer Singh will be playing the protagonist in ‘Don 3’. A teaser featuring the ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ actor as Don is expected to be unveiled within the next few days most probably along with the upcoming movie ‘Gadar 2’.
And if that indeed turns out to be true, then the announcement of Ranveer Singh as the next Don (after Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan) will come at the right time because the actor is in good form following the release of Karan Johar’s rom-com ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani’, which co-stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role.
Having said that, taking on the mantle of the lead role of ‘Don’ is a big responsibility for any actor, considering the impact which the previous two leads Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan had on the audience. Notwithstanding his acting chops and screen presence, Ranveer Singh’s casting in ‘Don 3’ is surely interesting but it’s rather risky too. Let’s see how that turns out to be.
