Fast X’s director Louis Leterrier has revealed that nothing has been decided officially about the future of Fast & Furious 11 and 12. He addressed the leading man’s (Vin Diesel) claims about Fast X being a part of a 3-part finale in his recent interview with GamesRadar.
The latest entry in the popular F&F franchise shows Dominic Toretto and his family coming under the radar of a new baddie, Jason Momoa, who plays Dante Reyes in the film.
Here’s what Leterrier said in his interview with GamesRadar:
“The one thing about Vin is like when he’s on a press line, he will say anything to get out of that press line. And I’m kind of like him and go, ‘Yeah, sure, we will go to the moon in the next one. Bye.’ And then you forget.”
He added, “I mean maybe what he was saying is that there’s 25 years of filmmaking and storytelling, three acts, two hours and two movies, between the last one and this one, might not be enough to tell the story that is needed, and that’s what we’re figuring out these days.”
It will be a bit hard for Universal to give the green light to the franchise’s upcoming parts, considering Fast X’s mediocre theatrical performance. In addition, the film has a ‘rotten’ 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which indicates the film’s mixed critical reception. Momoa’s performance received praise from critics. However, they also lamented the film’s storyline and physics-defying action sequences.
Fast X’s mediocre box office collection also highlights that many fans have lost interest in the franchise. This scenario makes the film a victim of franchise fatigue.
The franchise’s future also depends upon Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming standalone ‘Hobbs’ movie, which will serve as a direct continuation of Fast X’s events, ultimately laying the foundation for future F&F entries.
