Having had its world premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles last year, Atul Sabharwal’s ‘Berlin’ is finally coming to OTT. An enthralling slow-burn period espionage thriller film, ‘Berlin’ will be coming direct-to-digital soon on Zee5.
Set in 1993, ‘Berlin’ is a story of a time when India was eagerly awaiting Boris Yeltsin’s historic visit to the country. During this time the Indian Intelligence Bureau hires an unassuming sign-language interpreter and school teacher to interrogate Ashok, a deaf waiter accused of Assisi aging the Russian President. As the proceedings move forward, the two men develop a fragile bond that oscillates between curiosity, mistrust, and a primal understanding. And this is exactly what two rival factions of the Bureau are counting on and set to manipulate, as they forge their own kind of cold war.
‘Berlin’ lures the audience into an atmospheric maze of secrets, lies and repressed emotions. The setting of ‘Berlin’ captures the beguiling textures of Delhi, where the film is centred and is frequented by diplomats.
‘Berlin’ stars a talented ensemble that includes Rahul Bose (‘Mr. And Mrs. Iyer’, ‘Pyar Ke Side Effects’, ‘Chameli’), Aparshakti Khurana (‘Dangal’, ‘Stree’, ‘Luka Chuppi’), Ishwak Singh (‘Made in Heaven’, ‘Adhura’, ‘Paatal Lok’, ‘Rocket Boys’) in prominent roles.
Atul Sabharwal serves as ‘Berlin’s’ director. His short film ‘Midnight Lost and Found’ has earlier won the Best Short Award at IFFLA in 2008. His other work credits include ‘Powder’, ‘Aurangzeb’, ‘In Their Shoes’, Netflix’s ‘Class of ‘83’ and Prime Video’s ‘Jubilee’.
A Yippee Ki Yay Motion Pictures production, ‘Berlin’ has since been to many film festivals like London Indian Film Festival, Asian WorldFilm Festival, IFFSA Toronto, and more. Produced by Umesh Kumar Bansal Atul Sabharwal and Manav Shrivastav, ‘Berlin’ will premiere soon only on Zee5.
