After delivering last year’s massive box-office hit ‘Pathaan’, Siddharth Anand’s next directorial venture ‘Fighter’ hit the big screens last week on Thursday. And until now, the big-ticket aerial action movie has registered impressive extended weekend figures at the box office globally.
As per the latest update, ‘Fighter’ has already grossed over Rs.123 crores in India after just four days of its theatrical release. Not just that, the star-studded movie has also bagged the top spot globally as the No.1 film for the weekend.
But the road ahead is not as easy as it looks. Because the most important box-office test for ‘Fighter’ will be dependent on its theatrical performance during the weekdays, starting from today (Monday), which might be the most important day in that terms and which can set the right tone for its future box office prospects.
And that’s the pressure and problem for a big budget, massively mounted film like ‘Fighter’. To recover its production costs, the movie must perform at the box office, particularly during the first week. And the star power of Hrithik Roshan is not enough to guarantee a surefire success at the box office. For instance, Hrithik Roshan starred alongside Saif Ali Khan in ‘Vikram Vedha’ too, but the film underperformed at the box office despite positive feedback.
The good thing about ‘Fighter’ is that it has been getting rave reviews from many critics and the audiences too have given a positive response. So, what the film needs to do now is to collect at least Rs.12-13 crores on Monday, maintain good momentum throughout the weekdays until Friday, and pick up again the next weekend.
The basic plot of ‘Fighter’ ostensibly revolves around an elite group to top Indian Aviators who team up amidst the backdrop of a militant attack in Kashmir. Beside Hrithik Roshan in the lead role, ‘Fighter’ also features Deepika Padukone as an Army helicopter pilot Minal Rathore and Anil Kapoor as Group Captain Rakesh Jai Singh.
