The Coronavirus Pandemic and the Lockdown has brought a drastic change in the Entertainment sphere of Indians. With no or limited options of entertainment, OTT has emerged as the centerstage entertainment option for India this season. Filmfare had already recognized the OTT as the next big thing in the entertainment industry and gave away the first ever Filmfare Awards for OTT platforms on Saturday.
Paatal Lok and The Family Man, both Amazon originals, were the big winners at the event. When we look at the full list of winners at Filmfare OTT Awards 2020, it is evident that all of them were made originally in Hindi and later dubbed into other Indian languages. Filmfare had a special event for South films but OTT as such is an upcoming sphere and such a plan is not revealed. The OTT special films and web series which came out from the South were missing.
This may be partly due to the lack of quality and quantity from the South or even the lack of visibility as the Southern part of India is all about Regional film industries. But then, some very promising projects are coming out of this part of the World, and there are more of them in the coming days. Filmfare or any other awards can not ignore the South for longer. The next edition of awards will be interesting to wait and watch.
