Production has commenced for Season 2 of the popular Paramount+ series, Special Ops: Lioness, now changed to Lioness only. The streaming platform also revealed that the filming was now underway in Texas, US. Showrunner and creator of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan, disclosed that the Zoe Saldana starrer series had been renewed for a second season.
Lioness takes inspiration from a real-life U.S. Military program. It revolves around Joe (Zoe Saldana), a CIA officer who also leads the Lioness program. She recruits Marine Sergeant Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) for the program and tasks her with befriending the daughter of a terrorist financier.
Apart from Saldana and Oliveira, we should expect the return of Nicole Kidman as Joe’s boss Kaitlyn Meade, Morgan Freeman as the U. S. Secretary of State Edwin Mullins, and Thad Luckinbill as Kyle, Joe’s colleague and skilled CIA officer.
Season 1 culminated with Cruz distancing herself away from the Lioness program. The second season could focus on Joe’s attempts to find her most valuable asset. In addition, we could witness Cruz and Joe going rogue to take down the evil schemes of their own government. According to some online reports, Freeman’s Mullins could play a larger role in Season 2 as the Secretary of State.
However, there’s another popular rumour that suggests that Lioness could take an entirely different route, adopting an anthology-style approach. If that happens, we could witness a completely different Season 2 with a new storyline and cast members.
Lioness Season 2 may come out in 2025 on the Paramount+ streaming service. Indian viewers will be able to watch it on JioCinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
