With countless projects having the potential to be a box office hit or an instant classic, poor marketing and less promotions can highly impact any film or series. The main problem arises when filmmakers are not given enough credit for their work and their art isn’t respected enough by several corporations and production houses.
Indie film makers who do not have any funding for their projects rely on several funding houses which damage the filmmaker’s reputation by not valuing their work.
This is where IFC comes into the game and sovles a major problem faced by new and upcoming filmmakers. By assisting artists in maintaining control of their creative work, especially their intellectual property (IP) rights, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) is particularly committed to supporting Indian filmmakers.
Makhtar Diop, the Managing Director of IFC, described in an interview how filmmakers who depend on corporate backing frequently forfeit ownership of their work. IFC’s new strategy is to assist independent producers of films so they can profit from their ingenuity and own and sell their work to major streaming services.
Diop also emphasized Bollywood’s ability to effect societal change, particularly in relation to significant concerns like gender equality. He also referenced how movies have impacted and influence the culture of a country.
If you think this is the first time IFC is rooting for a good cause, well it’s not how you seem it to be. IFC has been making investments in India for many years, but it has recently increased them dramatically. Diop voiced optimism about the growth of private sector investments in spite of global challenges, believing that India has the ability to play a significant role in the world economy.
