One of the most important and inflammable films of the year has to be Annapoorani. The Tamil movie starring Nayanthara in the lead role completed its theatrical run almost smoothly in Tamil Nadu but it gathered a lot of buzz after its release on Netflix India.
Mind you, this is not the kind of attention that the makers would have wanted. But this is what destiny had in store for Annapoorani.
Actually Tamil Brahmins are usually strict vegetarians. The movie showed a girl of Tamil Brahmin origin who cooks non-vegetarian food in her aspiration to be a chef. Interestingly, her father is a priest for whom even imagining her daughter cooking non-veg is nothing less than a disaster.
But she does.
This movie was not taken well by the Hindu organisations and it led to a lot of chaos. This forced the makers to pull the song out of Netflix India. However, there was a promise to edit out the controversial elements.
But, the movie is making a comeback. However, not on Netflix India but Simply South. If you are unaware Simply South is an OTT platform dedicated to hosting South Indian films outside India.
Annapoorani will be available to stream there on the 9th of August. Netflix India has not made any announcement so far but who knows, it might drop the film silently on the same date. Let’s see what portion of the film has been edited.
