Shuang Hu will feature as a Chinese-Australian tenacious tea shop owner seeking out for family, amorous and cultural connection in Amazon Prime’s first original Australian feature, ‘Five Blind Dates’. This rom-com was created and penned down by the actor himself alongside Nathan Ramos-Park. In the story Lia (Shuang Hu) was told by a fortune-teller that she will meet her suitor on one of the next five dates she goes on to.
According to the storyline, Lia visits her family in Townsville for her sister’s engagement celebrations when she bumps into an unexpected prophecy in a family luncheon who says that she will soon come across her soulmate in one of the five forthcoming dates she goes on to. Her family being doubtful of Lia’s potential to find a suitor for herself, decides to send her on five blind dates. Even though her prime focus lies in safeguarding her grandmother’s tea shop, unwillingly Lia agrees to go on the dates.
The rest of the ensemble cast is yet to be announced. Shawn Seet (Baron, Storm Boy, The Code) will be helming this movie. Shuang Hu (The Family Law, Ronny Chieng: International Student) and (As We Babble On, Club Mickey Mouse, Bone) co-unitedly has written and created this movie. It is produced by Amazon Studios and Goalpost Pictures Australia with Goalpost’s Kylie du Fresne as the producer and Ben Grant and Rosemary Blight as the executive producers.
‘Five Blind Dates’ will be Prime Video’s first scripted Australian Amazon Original movie and will be shot in Townsville and Sydney. It will be launched exclusively to Prime members in Australia and more than 240 countries and territories globally.
