It has been more than a year since veteran actor Rishi Kapoor left us after succumbing to cancer. Earlier this morning, his daughter Riddhima revealed the first poster of his last film, ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’, being posthumously released. Having passed away during the filming of the movie, the film was then completed by actor Paresh Rawal, who stepped into the late actor’s shoes. Apart from Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal, ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ also stars Juhi Chawla and Suhail Nayyar in pivotal roles.
The feel-good dramedy, is about a 60-year old man who discovers the joys of life post-retirement. ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ marked the late actor’s last screen outing and was to be released today, the 4th of September, as earlier mentioned by lead actress Juhi Chawla, on the occasion of his birth anniversary. However, the makers have dropped the first look of the film instead and the release date is yet to be announced.
Speaking about ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’, Rawal had earlier said in an interview, “I read a script as good as this after a long time. If Rishi sahab was in this film throughout, he would have created fireworks. Whatever work he has done, it is phenomenal. As an audience member, it was my loss that he couldn’t finish the film”. This film also marked the reunion of Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor after almost a decade. The hit duo, famous for numerous films including ‘Bol Radha Bol’, ‘Eena Meena Deeka’, ‘Daraar’, ‘Saajan Ka Ghar’ amongst others, last shared screen space together in 2009’s ‘Luck by Chance’, which incidentally, was also produced by Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment.
‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ is helmed by debutant director Hitesh Bhatia and jointly produced by Excel Entertainment and MacGuffin Pictures. The film is being touted as ‘a light hearted, coming-of-age story of a lovable 60-year-old-man’. Well, we terribly miss the late actor and can’t wait for the trailer of the film to drop.
