Netflix has unveiled the first look for its upcoming film ‘Maharaj’ and both the lead stars don an unrecognisable avatar in the poster. ‘Maharaj’ is the second project of Yash Raj Films and Netflix together after the very successful ’The Railway Men’ and is part of their overall multi-year creative partnership.
In the poster launched today we have two halves depicting the two sides of the story in ‘Maharaj’. On the right is Junaid Khan in an intense vintage look wearing an off white shirt with a brown half jacket. With messy curly hair and a moustache he looks completely unidentifiable.
In fact, Jaidee Ahlawat on the left is not in a regular look either. With a bun, tika and lots of beaded necklaces, the clean shaven look of Ahlawat is quite unique.
The contrast is also shown through the background that has paper cutting with Supreme Court of Bombay headline behind Junaid and a bungalow and many followers welcoming Ahlawat on the other side.
‘Maharaj’ is directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, whose last film Hichki was a global hit. Other than Junaid Khan and Jaidee Ahlawat, ‘Maharaj’ also stars Sharvari & Shalini Pandey.
Inspired by true events, ‘Maharaj’, is an incredible David vs Goliath story set in the 1800s, about how a regular man, journalist by profession, takes on a powerful role-model of society, hailed by many as a messiah for the masses. The fearless reporter uncovers a series of incidents that shake the very foundation of society.
Produced by Aditya Chopra under his Yash Raj Films banner, ‘Maharaj’ will premiere exclusively on Netflix on 14th June, 2024.
