By now, many of you guys should have heard of this emotional thriller, Kaanekkaane, which was released on SonyLIV, a few days ago. While the movie was under-marketed, it still managed to garner the attention of critics and subscribers alike, making it a surprising hit over the weekend. What many of you didn’t know was that Kaanekkaane was SonyLIV’s first Malayalam film to be released directly for streaming. So the release of the movie came with some risks, especially for a lesser known Malayalam movie premiering on an OTT platform which is primarily known for its North Indian and sports content. And against all odds, it was a successful release.
Social media, especially Twitter, has been going crazy over Kaanekkaane – mainly for its thrills, music and the brilliant acting of Suraj Venjaramoodu. The movie also had some brilliant performances from Tovino Thomas, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Master Alok Krishna. The story was well written, well edited and well directed. The cinematography and the music departments need special mentions of their own. Check out some of the tweets below for some more clarity:

#Kaanekkaane -A slow burn family emotional thriller, set as whodunit, exploring the flawed nature in humans, through themes of regret, guilt, confession & empathy. The realistic characters & the screenplay sustain the mystery, unveiling the hidden secrets consciously.

The aforementioned Tweets are just a few in a sea of 1000+ mentions regarding the film. Most subscribers and critics recommend this movie and we do too. SonyLIV knocks it out of the park with its first ever Malayalam direct-to-OTT release and we can’t wait to see what the streaming platform will release in the foreseeable future.
