First reactions to ‘The First Omen’ have surfaced, and the majority of them have hailed the Arkasha Stevenson directional a worthy entry to The Omen franchise. Supported by a star-making performance from Nell Tiger Free, the prequel to the original 1976 film has exceeded all expectations. Apart from Nell, the film stars Tawkeek Barhom, Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson, and Bill Nighy.
Critics have declared The First Omen a ‘hellish surprise’. Most of them have pointed out the “gruesome” and “gnarly” birth scene in the film. They believe that particular scene will leave a long-lasting effect on moviegoers. In addition, they have praised Nell Tiger Free’s performance. She plays Margaret Daino, who moves to Rome to start her new life as a nun. However, the film’s story has received some criticism for succumbing to conventional prequel restrictions.
The First Omen has arrived in theaters worldwide, inducing India. It serves as the sixth entry to The Omen franchise, which began with Richard Donner’s The Omen (1976).
Moreover, critics have also praised Arkasha Stevenson’s direction. She excels at creating a creepy atmosphere, and expertly uses body horror in the movie. Although, her film does not break any new ground. Still, it is a worthy addition to the franchise. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has scored a fresh 85% critic score, based on 47 reviews.
