In a surprise treat for Bong Joon-ho fans, producers Warner Bros. revealed the first look and short teaser for ‘Mickey 17’, Bong Joon-ho’s next film after the record-breaking, multiple-Oscar-winning Korean film Parasite. The teaser is super-intriguing, with an equally edgy background music to match. Along with the teaser, we now also have an official release date for ‘Mickey 17’. The sci-fi thriller will premiere in theatres on 29th March, 2024.
The first teaser for ‘Mickey 17’ shows Robert Pattinson’s character lying with eyes closed in a narrow cylindrical container that is constantly rotating. The rotating cylinder comes to a stop towards the end of the teaser, and Robert Pattinson stares straight into the camera, an enigmatic look on his face. Robert Pattinson plays Mickey 17, a human cloned and sent into space as part of ambitious space endeavours.
‘Mickey 17’ is an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s well-received novel, ‘Mickey7’. ‘Mickey 17’ is an inter-planetary sci-fi drama, set in the backdrop of an icy planet called Niflheim. Human expendables are sent on expeditions to the frozen world, in order to colonise the alien planet. The expendables die multiple deaths, only to be cloned into new beings, with their original memories and personalities intact. Mickey 17 is one such human expendable, presumed to be dead, who is caught in an unexpected situation with his clone, Mickey 18.
Besides Robert Pattinson, ‘Mickey 17’ stars Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie and Steven Yeun in pivotal roles. The fact that Bong Joon-ho is making this intriguing sci-fi drama is a huge plus in its favour. Sci-fi is a genre that sits comfortably with Bong Joon-ho’s talent as a director, having made sci-fi films ‘Host’, ‘Snowpiercer’ and ‘Okja’ earlier.
‘Mickey 17’ is produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, alongside Warner Bros., Bong Joon-ho’s own Offscreen, Inc. banner, and Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company.
‘Mickey 17’ premieres in theatres worldwide on 29th March, 2024. Have a look at the first teaser for the film –
