Five Interesting Trivia About ‘The Family Man’ You Might Not Know

Five Interesting Trivia About ‘The Family Man’ You Might Not Know

Arguably the most anticipated Indian web series of 2021 ‘The Family Man S2’ will finally start streaming shortly on the Amazon Prime Video platform. Before you dive into the series, we give you five interesting trivia pertaining to the show that you might not be aware of. So, here we go:

Trivia 1

Not all of us might be aware that back in the year 2017 when the casting of ‘The Family Man’ was being planned, an accomplished actor was approached for the lead role. And it was not the virtuoso performer Manoj Bajpayee. Actually, the makers had reportedly approached Akshaye Khanna for the role of the now-famous ‘Middle Class Guy. World Class Spy’ Srikant Tiwari.

However, ostensibly due to financial constraints, Akshaye Khanna couldn’t do the series. Eventually, Manoj Bajpayee got the role and the veteran actor simply nailed it. And the rest, as we say, is history. The talented performer that Akshaye Khanna is, he too would have beautifully essayed the role. He or anyone else couldn’t have anticipated at that time how phenomenally successful ‘The Family Man’ would eventually become.

Trivia 2

‘The Family Man’ was not the first on-screen project to have portrayed the notion of the secret life of a spy without his family knowing about it. Because in James Cameron’s action-comedy film ‘True Lies’, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character also struggled to manage his familial duties and his double life as a secret government agent.

Like Srikant Tiwari, Arnold’s character also spies on his family using his unique skills. Although the plotline and the treatment of ‘The Family Man’ is completely different from ‘True Lies’, both of them apparently share this important similarity.

Trivia 3

An aspect of Manoj Bajpayee’s character in ‘The Family Man’ is said to be loosely based on filmmaker Raj Nidimoru’s uncle. Raj’s uncle was an intelligence officer who used to cook up stories whenever anyone asked him about his profession.

His uncle would tell them that he was a shoe salesman or a garment exporter or something like that. However, the web series is not based on his uncle as it’s mostly fictional. The makers just took an idea from the uncle’s interesting story.

Trivia 4

In the trailer for ‘The Family Man S2’, Samantha Akkineni’s character says “I will kill them. I will kill them all”. Interestingly, these words were part of a bigger dialogue said by Keanu Reeves in action flick ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’. Reeves had famously said in the movie “Winston… tell them… Tell them all… Whoever comes, whoever it is… I’ll kill them. I’ll kill them all.” So, in a way, it’s a delightful reminder of this ‘John Wick’ line.

Trivia 5

The web series shares its name with Brett Ratner’s (Director – ‘Rush Hour’, ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’) film also titled ‘The Family Man’ starring Nicolas Cage. The fantasy-drama film revolved around an unmarried and successful businessman who wakes up one day to suddenly find out that he has a wife and is now a tire salesman. Although there is no other correlation between the cult show and this film.
