Prime Video India’s hyped Rohit Shetty show ‘Indian Police Force’ has received terrible reviews all around – from both critics and audiences. It is quite obvious that Prime Video had huge expectations from the police procedural show. Starring big names such as Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi, Indian Police Force was the golden goose for Prime Video. But alas, the goose refused to lay golden eggs, choosing instead to fall badly on its face.
Now that that goose is dead, cooked and done with, Prime Video is staring at a void – it has nothing big to release around the corner. Arch-rivals Netflix, ZEE5 and Disney Plus Hotstar have grabbed all the big movies for post-theatrical releases – Neru, Animal, Sam Bahadur – all gone. It is the first time that Prime Video has no big movies lined up for release in the coming days.
Nor does it have any big series announced for February, except for the rather uninteresting, documentary-like series, ‘Poacher’. Though Poacher comes from Delhi Crime’s Richie Mehta, and stars names like Roshan Mathew and Nimisha Sajayan, Poacher seems to be yet another chapter in the done-to-death Veerappan saga; or something similar – distinctly unexciting.
Around the same time last year, Prime Video had made a huge splash with Shahid Kapoor’s web debut, ‘Farzi’. It had hoped to repeat the feat with Indian Police Force, but it is not to be. Indian Police Force has proved to be a dud of the highest order.
With rival Netflix marching ahead with hit shows, original movies and licensed titles, Prime Video India suddenly has a lot of ground to cover, if it hopes to catch up with Netflix.
But what is Prime Video doing?
It is living in the proverbial fool’s paradise, sitting around twiddling its thumbs, while its rivals steal a march over it.
But it shouldn’t have to be like this – coz Prime Video has a stunning ace up its sleeve – the much-awaited new season of Panchayat. If there’s one show OTT viewers have been waiting for with desperation, it is Panchayat Season 3.
But, but…….the Panchayat Season 3 ace can only be a weapon if Prime Video chooses to deploy it. Right now, Prime Video is simply playing the ostrich, head buried in the sand, and not doing anything about Panchayat Season 3.
A stray post from Prime Video Indonesia about Panchayat Season 3 release date on 15th January created massive buzz on social media. That post was quietly taken down by Prime Video Indonesia. But ever since, netizens have been eagerly waiting for an update on the release date of Panchayat Season 3.
But is Prime Video bothered?
Nah. Nada. Zilch.
Coz, as we said, it’s living in a fool’s paradise.
Panchayat Season 3 is huge – bigger than anything Netflix has to offer. The show has wrapped shoot long back. So why not leverage your most lucrative property — post updates, create buzz — and then unleash the show on Prime Video?
Rest assured, it will be game, set and match for Prime Video.
Yo Prime Video, go ahead and announce the Panchayat Season 3 release date now!
