Many a times Netflix India drops hints about films that turn up into streaming on their platform. Some times they don’t. Nevertheless if the genre is thriller, audience is bound to catch hold of it. The latest example is the 2020 release ‘Footfairy’ starring Gulshan Devaiah in the lead.
Footfairy is a crime thriller evidently inspired by Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Memories of Murder’. The film is directed by Kanishk Varma. The film follows Vivaan, a seasoned cop who tries to track down a serial killer who cuts his victims’ feet once he kills them. The film also stars Chak De India fame Sagarika Ghatge as Vivaan’s girlfriend and also Kunal Roy Kapoor.
The film however upon release received negative reviews. The psychological thriller became the first-ever film to air directly on Indian television during the Covid-19 lockdown. The film had exclusively premiered on &Pictures during October 2020 and the film dropped on Netflix last week. Within few days of its Netflix release, Footfairy has been trending on Netflix India. The film not only managed to crack into Netflix India Top 10 but also sealed #2 position in the list just below the much anticipated biggie ‘The Gray Man’.
Footfairy is the top most trending Indian original this week and this shows Netflix India audience is largely craving for thriller content to watch from the comfort of their homes. Footfairy is streaming on Netflix India both in Marathi and Hindi now. Stay tuned for more updates.
