And at last, the thing we have feared has finally come true. Yes. Ellen Pompeo, aka Meredith Shepherd Grey, is exiting Grey’s Anatomy, after playing the iconic character for 19 seasons.
Meredith Grey was probably one of the most loved characters in the show. Her friendships and relationships, her strengths and flaws, her good and bad times, we have been witness to all of this and more, for the last couple of years. Now, it seems it is the time for goodbyes for Meredith. Ellen, however, does confirm will still return for a few cameos in the future, easing the pain q bit.
This also means the last of the show’s MAGIC has exited the show. MAGIC was the acronym given to the five primary characters of the show who were there from the first season and gave the show some of its best moments-Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, George O’Malley, Izzie Stevens, and Cristina Yang.
While there were many instances where the show’s twists and turns shocked us, the death of McDreamy Dr. Derek Shepherd was something the show never recovered from. Good characters came and went, but as they say, Grey and Shepherd were ‘the great love story’ and one of the best parts of the whole show. Now, with Meredith leaving the show, the future of the show stands at crossroads. While there are characters yet to explore and new ones to come, this will be another turn the fans may have a hard time digesting.
Grey’s Anatomy is a medical drama and is one of the longest-running and most successful TV shows in history. The series focuses on the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attendings as they develop into seasoned doctors while balancing personal and professional relationships. While the show did have a low after the first few seasons, the show still remained popular and loved.
With Pompeo also leaving, it is no understatement to say this is the end of an era.
