Lucasfilm’s decision to cancel ‘The Acolyte’ has certainly become a hot topic of discussion on social media. While some fans have shown immense support for Leslye Headland’s Star Wars series, others have reacted enthusiastically to the news. This has led to the creation of the “Save the Acolyte” campaign by fans who are disappointed by the abrupt cancellation of the show, especially how Season 1’s finale left room for the development of the second season. Then there are those fans who genuinely hate the Amandla Stenberg starrer as they believe that the show is purely “woke”.
As Ahsoka Tano says, “Even in the darkest of times, there is always hope.” Whether the campaign to save The Acolyte succeeds remains uncertain, but it’s understandable why some fans want to hold out hope for a second season.
Right from the get-go, The Acolyte started enduring a storm of controversy. It eventually ended up fueling the ongoing Star Wars culture war among fans, lamented for its perceived “woke” nature, questionable casting choices and character arcs, and alleged deviations from the established canon.
A large portion of the Star Wars fanbase wants Lucasfilm to officially renew The Acolyte for a second season, while some believe that the studio should focus on improving the show instead of shelving it for good.
Here are some of the tweets that support the “Save The Acolyte” campaign.

The finale of The Acolyte was tailor made to setup a S2 and the fans truly deserve to see where it would have gone.

You left Hayden Christensen, Ahmed Best, Jake Lloyd, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Moses Ingram, & now Amandla Stenberg to fend for themselves without your support & your cancelation of The Acolyte is telling us who you rather support.
Do better, Lucasfilm. #SaveTheAcolyte https://t.co/zuaDLRLf83

Causal reminder that the lightsaber choreography of the Acolyte is some of the best we've had in decades. It was that good ✨ #SaveTheAcolyte pic.twitter.com/3aXtE8eDiO

The Acolyte, while displaying some serious noticeable flaws, did show some promise. For instance, the performances of Stenberg, Manny Jacinto, and Lee Jung-jae stood out the most from the show. In addition, there is no denying that this Leslye Headland creation featured some of the best live-action lightsaber fight sequences ever in the history of Star Wars.
The fans’ support for The Acolyte is incredible to see, given how some Star Wars actors have endured immense hate from some of the franchise’s toxic fans in the past. Actors like Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) were forced to leave social media after facing intense sexist and racist abuse online from the franchise’s toxic fanbase. John Boyega also experienced racist comments and death threats while filming the Sequel Trilogy. And how can we forget Hayden Christensen? The on-screen Anakin Skywalker has endured his fair share of online harassment and criticism in the past. However, in recent years, there has been a resurgence of appreciation for Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin, with many fans recognizing the complexity and nuance of his performance. Stay tuned for more updates.
