The Beatles have been a band that is beyond the ages, quite literally transcending space, time, and human emotions; their music is still relevant. To pay tribute to them, the entertainment industry might be planning something special.
There will be four biopic films, each focusing on one of the four members of The Beatles: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
Sam Mendes will have the responsibility to direct the films. Each film will focus on the unique story of one of the members. Mendes will adapt a POV-type story and will feature music rights for the scripted film.
Mendes, along with Neal Street Productions partners Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor, will produce the films. Jeff Jones from Apple Corps Ltd. will serve as the executive producer.
In the director’s own words, “I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies.”
Later, Tom Rothman, chairman, and CEO of Sony added, “I know I speak for our CEO Tony Vinciquerra, who was instrumental in making this happen, and every Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group colleague around the world when I say: ‘yeah, yeah, yeah!’”
It is reported that Sony will find and produce the films, which will be released in big screens in 2027, capitalizing on the recent popularity of music persona-based films. Even in recent times, Bob Marley’s biopic managed to gain significant popularity, becoming a box office hit.
One great aspect about The Beatles is their diverse members; four different movies are definitely the right way to go. Given the band’s popularity, these films are waiting to be hits.
“Yeah, you got that somethin’
I think you’ll understand
When I feel that somethin’
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand”
Poetry, pure poetry. If you’re a fan, you’ll need to wait a few years, and if Sony manages to tick the boxes, they’ll have something very special down the line.
