If you remember the old days of Jio’s birth, then you would remember how Reliance’s Jio used to be an absolutely free service for 4G networks. They provided 4 GB of data with absolutely no charge and the way it revolutionised the telecom sector of India is a part of history.
To sum up, India was not the same after this. JioCinema tried to have a similar fate. From May 2023, the platform bounced as nobody cared about it earlier. JioCinema grabbed FIFA, IPL, HBO, Warner Bros and promised a strong slate of 100 titles.
And the best part was…it was all free.
Well, free things have their own prices to pay. JioCinema provided absolutely trashy unwatchable originals with a lot of bugs. We also complained a lot of times which resulted in a little improvement. Thankfully, they had a 999 RS plan for foreign content but that too was filled with ads. Users complained as to why they are being forced to watch ads after paying a hefty price but the top brass at Reliance turned deaf ears towards it.
But, it looks like the platform is bringing something. They are bringing a new plan that would possibly get us rid of all those annoying ads. But, the free days will be over. JioCinema will not stream even Indian content for free after that.
