Ad filmmaker Vasan Bala’s first feature film release, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, an action comedy starring Abhimanyu Dassani, Radhika Madan, Mahesh Manjrekar and Gulshan Deviah is now out on Netflix. The film that comprises several references to globally acclaimed martial arts films is about a boy who cannot feel pain, owing to a rare medical condition.
The narrative is staged like a tribute to over-the-top films with great dances, action sequences that lack logic and is entertaining as long as it lasts. The film’s lead actor Abhimanyu Dassani happens to be the son of actress Bhagyashree, who made her debut with Salman Khan’s Maine Pyaar Kiya.
Radhika Madan is a popular figure on television and had made her film debut with Vishal Bhardwaj’s strangely impressive Pataakha. Across 135 minutes, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota shows how a parody and celebration of Indian cinema cliches can be done classily with imaginative filmmaking.
