The hype surrounding Yash’s upcoming KGF Chapter 2 has reached a crescendo. The first teaser of the film, along with the first looks of actors Yash and Sanjay Dutt from the film have served to heighten the buzz like never before. And now comes news that Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights of the Hindi-dubbed version of the film for an astronomical amount! How much….stay with us as we come to that all important part in a bit.
When KGF Chapter 1 was about to be released in the December of 2018, no one had an inkling of what a blockbuster hit the movie would turn out to be. At that time, Yash wasn’t the mega star he is now. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani bought the film rights for the Hindi-dubbed version of the film by paying what can only be called ‘peanuts’. And the ROI they and Excel Entertainment got was astounding!
Now, the sequel to the blockbuster KGF 1 is releasing soon – buzz says, KGF 2 will release in June. However, paying peanuts to acquire the Hindi rights of KGF Chapter 2 is not an option for Excel Entertainment anymore. As per trade analyst and news publication Bollywood Hungama, Excel has paid a massive 90 Crores to buy the rights to release KGF Chapter 2 in Hindi across India.
The same will be the case for the exclusive streaming rights of KGF Chapter 2, whenever they are sold. The streaming rights to KGF Chapter 1 are with Amazon Prime Video. The movie was one of the most watched titles on Amazon Prime Video during the lockdown. It has proved to be an unequivocal hit for the platform. Obviously, Amazon Prime Video will be quite keen to acquire the streaming rights for KGF Chapter 2. And obviously, it will have to pay much more for the streaming rights for the sequel than what it paid for KGF Chapter 1.
Stay tuned to Binged.com as we bring you fresh updates on KGF Chapter 2 and who paid what for an exclusive piece of the alluring pie that Prashanth Neel and Yash’s movie has turned out to be.
