A huge chunk of documentaries have already been made on him, but as more and more details are coming up with each day, sometimes it does become a necessity. And this time, Antoine Fuqua is set to carry the responsibility.
“Troublemaker: The Story Behind the Mandela Tapes,” the new take won’t just focus on the contribution of Mandela; it will also enlighten us with some unreleased audio interviews.
According to the makers, this tale will tell the story of Mandela as he shares an honest, accurate, and definitive depiction of the man Mandela, who is considered a global icon.
Talking about resources, the director didn’t just limit himself to the tapes but also took the help of Mac Maharaj on the project. For context, Maharaj spent 12 years with Nelson, being his cellmate. He also transcribed Mandela’s autobiography and later became a minister in Mandela’s government.
This also won’t be an extremely objective approach, as Maharaj will also be sharing his own opinions and thoughts about the incidents.
“It’s an honor to bring to the screen the untold story of Mandela, a man I’ve revered my entire life,” Fuqua said.
Later, he added, “For decades, Mandela and his comrades were put through the most inhumane conditions imaginable. Yet they came out of jail with love and forgiveness in their hearts, and rather than seeking vengeance, they sought to unite the country. His compassion and inner strength enabled Mandela to make meaningful change.”
The making has already started in South Africa as Fuqua began to interview some old friends of Mandela and some of his comrades.
