Hansal Mehta has commenced filming his highly anticipated series, Gandhi. The upcoming show will take inspiration from the life of Mahatma Gandhi. It will explore his life in different periods, similar to what Peter Morgan did with Netflix’s The Crown series, which revolved around the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
Applause Entertainment serves as the show’s producer. Its development started back in 2022. In addition, its filming will take place in different locations, such as India, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. These are the countries in which Gandhi lived.
Not much is known about Hansal Mehta’s upcoming project. However, it will reportedly explore Gandhi’s early life, his days in South Africa as a barrister, his struggle against the British government, and his part in India’s independence.
Ramachandra Guha’s novels – Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World and Gandhi Before India are considered source materials for the show. Applause Entertainment is producing the series in association with its Applause Productions department.
Currently, no streaming service has bought its streaming rights. Globally prominent entertainment media outlet, Deadline, has added the series to the list of its 15 International TV Dramas to Watch in 2024.
Pratik Gandhi is set to play Mahatma Gandhi in the upcoming Hansal Mehta series. This project marks his third collaboration with the prominent director after ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ and ‘Baai’. Stay tuned for more updates.
