It is a well-known fact that whatever Sanjay Leela Bhansali makes turns out to be magical. This does not hold true for Saawariya but for every other project he made. His latest film Gangubai Kathiawadi is no exception to that.
The film starring Alia Bhatt was moderately successful at the box office but garnered immense appreciation from the audience and critics alike. Looks like fans were waiting for the film to arrive on OTT to binge it.
But whatever the case may be, Gangubai Kathiawadi has achieved the seemingly impossible feat which is unprecedented. On Netflix, the Indian films which came out to be extremely successful are Shyam Singha Roy, Sooryavanshi, Dasvi, Haseen Dillruba, Minnal Murali and more.
Amongst them, the most successful was Nani’s Shyam Singha Roy which ranked itself at the 3rd Position of most-watched non-English film globally. But now the crown belongs to Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi.
The film debuted last week and became the most-watched non-English film globally.
As you can see in the charts, the film is at the number one position and is the first Indian film to do so. The watch hours could be dramatically more had the Telugu audio not been removed.
Many people were complaining against the removal of Telugu audio which lasted for only a few hours and then the film remained available only in Hindi.
But this is indeed an appreciable achievement for both Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Indian cinema.
