With ‘The Walking Dead’ finally ending in 2022; the final season set to air next year, the creators of the hit television series are bringing a new spin-off series, set 10 years after the zombie apocalypse. Here is all you need to know about the new television spin-off series.
Titled ‘The Walking Dead: World Beyond’, the series will follow a group of teenagers who grew up during the apocalypse, making them the first generation to come-of-age in this new extreme environment. They live in a closed off community, where they attend school and live normally, or as normal as it can get for them, while the adults provide and take care of them, keeping them safe from the zombies.
The 10-episode first season is set to follow two young sisters reaching adulthood, who remember the beginning of the apocalypse (which is rare among these kids). Iris Benett is the paragon of virtue, while her sister Hope, is a renegade against society, constantly trying to leave the ‘safe-zone’. They eventually set out, leaving the community to find their father who has gone missing. Joining them is Elton Ortiz and Silas Plaskett who have their own reasons for leaving the community.
The series will stream online on AMC+ and Amazon Prime Video next month. The series will be run by Matthew Negrete, who had previously written for ‘The Walking Dead’. Negrete says that the show will focus on each of the four teenagers. Their decisions will make them heroes or villains in this new, unforgiving world. The series is set for only two seasons with 10 episodes each, concluding by 2022.
This will be the third television series within ‘The Walking Dead’ franchise following ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Fear The Walking Dead’. The 11th season of ‘The Walking Dead’ was supposed to air next month, but eventually the show runners decided to end the series on the 11th season itself. They made changes to the script and created a new ending for the present group of survivors.
‘Fear The Walking Dead’, was renewed for a sixth season last year and is set to premiere this year on October 11th. The spin-off didn’t do as well as the original series but it has been commended by critics for showing the different types of struggles people go through against insurmountable odds of survival.
‘The Walking Dead: World Beyond’ is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video on October 4th.
