Scottish actor and film producer Gerard Butler rose to stardom with the release of ‘300’, an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Lynn Varleya. The dark historical-fiction war drama revolves around King Leonidas and his seemingly indestructible small yet elite army force of 300 Spartans as they battle it out against Xerxes and his massive Persian army.
This ancient battle of Thermopylae is accompanied by insurmountable odds faced by the army of Sparta when they are betrayed by a Spartan reject. Created by American director, producer, and screenwriter Zack Snyder, the title continues to remain Butler’s highest-grossing film so far.
For fans of the genre, and of gritty and gory photomontages accompanied by a killer background score, we have some good news! A ‘300’ TV series adaptation is officially in early development at Warner Bros! While exact details are still being worked out, the show will serve as a prequel to the well-received 2006 film.
While no actors, director, or even writers have been linked to the project yet, Synder is in talks to reprise his role as director for this feature as well.
This will succeed the follow-up film, ‘300: Rise of an Empire’, which was released in 2014, and was based on Miller’s graphic novel ‘Xerxes’. While the sequel was less well received at the box office, it still grossed $337 million worldwide on a $110 million budget.
Will the series be met with the same fate? Or will it surpass the record set by the original feature? Stay tuned to find out!
