The man responsible for introducing the Ghostbusters franchise to the world, Ivan Reitman, is no more. He helmed the first two Ghostbusters films, released in 1984 and 1989. His family informed Associated Press about his tragic death. The prominent Hollywood director passed away peacefully in his home in Montecito, California. He was 75 at the time of his death.
Reitman was born on October 27, 1946. Klara and Ladislav Reitman were his parents. Both of them were Hungarian Jews. His mother was also a survivor of the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp. His family shifted to Canada when he was just a child. He completed his graduation at McMaster University, receiving a degree of Bachelor of Music. He made many short films before making his name in Hollywood.
Foxy Lady became Reitman’s official debut project. It featured Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin. But his first global success came in the form of Meatballs (1979), with Bill Murray in the lead. The movie earned $70 million against a small budget of $1.6 million in that time.
Apart from directing the Ghostbusters movies, he is known for his direction in Stripes (1981), Twins (1988), Kindergarten Cop (1990), Six Days, Seven Nights (1998), No Strings Attached (2014), and many more films. The director was also prominent for his multiple collaborations with stars like Tom Dugan, Bill Murray, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sigourney Weaver, and many more.
