Gina Carano Latest In Long Line Of Stars To Face Axe Courtesy Social Media

If you guys haven’t heard it already then let us be the first ones to tell you this – Gina Carano has officially been kicked off the Mandalorian series and is not expected to join any more of the Lucasfilms projects. Cara Dune from The Mandalorian who was portrayed by Carano was a much loved recurring character on the live action Star Wars spin-off despite previous controversies and she was expected to be part of the upcoming Star Wars web series, Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic. She has now been kicked off the George Lucas created franchise due to her controversial tweets regarding the treatments of the Jewish people during the holocaust as well as for mocking mask-wearing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Carano is just another celebrity/ actor from a long list of wrong doers, who has been fired thanks to mass social media uproar, due to past misdeeds/ hateful comments. Some of these tweets came up during the run of the second season of The Mandalorian, but they were regarding the mask wearing and Presidential voter fraud – both being two different types of misinformation, but the actor in the end is entitled to their opinion. But the latest holocaust tweet was final straw for Lucas films, who have now given her the sack, along with UTA film agency.

Armie Hammer is another actor who got into trouble recently, but for admittedly an even worse issue – non-consensual BDSM/ kink sex. We will not delve into what the actor’s sexual appetite is, but needless to say, he seems to have traumatised most of the women he was with. When a plethora of complaints came from multiple women online, he was eventually dropped by his agent and publicist. Hartley Sawyer was also fired from CW’s The Flash last year, for his previous tweets which contained derogatory remarks against women and people of colour. What made it even worse (for him) was that those tweets were being circulated around the time of George Floyd’s wake.

Another unlikely candidate who unfortunately came under for her comments and concerns regarding the Covid-19 vaccinations was Letitia Wright. The actor who portrays Shuri in the blockbuster hits Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame had shared the link of a 70 minute video made by a coronavirus skeptic. The actor had gone on to speak about her concern regarding the Covid-19 vaccines, but the online mob immediately latched onto the Covid-19 vaccines part and has labelled her as “Anti-Vaxx”.

Social media has helped root out a lot of bad people in places of power, but the previously mentioned case is an indication on how things can be taken too far. Having concerns on the usage of coronavirus vaccine is a legitimate reason to have, despite the way she went about expressing it (which is also not an issue). And stating an opinion shouldn’t be vilified or commended, it should be appreciated. Hopefully, this kind of moral policing will stop (in the future) and only cases such as Carano and Sawyer will be the ones that will be held accountable for their words and actions, not people like Wright, who are stating opinions (not holding our breath on that one though).
