God Of War & More: Sony Brings 3 New Series Based On Video Games

Sony is working on a new set of live-action TV adaptations of several of its most popular video games. The content behemoth revealed the news at an investor briefing this morning. Three popular PlayStation video games series are in the process of being adapted into live-action TV series – the ‘Gods Of War’ games franchise, the ‘Horizon’ games and the ‘Gran Turismo’ franchise.

Sony also revealed the platforms that the TV series will stream on. The ‘Gods Of War’ TV series will stream on Amazon Prime Video. Netflix has snapped up the series based on the ‘Horizon’ franchise. The ‘Gran Turismo’ series hasn’t been sold to any platform or streamer yet.

Live-action adaptations of video games are the latest trend in the entertainment industry. Gods Of War, Horizon and Gran Turismo join Sony’s other live-action adaptations – HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ TV show, Tom Holland’s ‘Uncharted’ movie, Peacock’s ‘Twisted Metal’ series, a movie on ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ from the director of John Wick, among others. Sony has been aggressively pursuing leveraging its successful gaming experiences to create compelling content.

Halo, Fallout, Borderlands, Assassin’s Creed are several other shows/movies being created from major gaming franchises.
