Yesterday, we at Binged had informed our readers that there’s an interesting update on the way from SonyLIV’s upcoming ‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story‘. We’d also mentioned that as per our understanding, the update will most likely be the cast reveal for the show. Well, the much-anticipated update is here; and yes, it is the all-important cast reveal for the sequel to 2020’s blockbuster hit, ‘Scam 1992’.
SonyLIV and ‘Scam 2003’ creators Applause Entertainment today shared the first look of the actor who will play scam mastermind, Abdul Karim Telgi, in the series. And believe us when we tell you he’s perfection! Little-known actor Gagan Dev Riar will portray Abdul Karim Telgi in Scam 2003: The Telgi Story. The actor’s first look is so reminiscent of Telgi that you’ll do a double take when you first lay your eyes on him as Telgi.

Uncanny similarity, isn’t it?
Casting Director Mukesh Chhabra must be commended for sniffing out this strikingly similar-looking actor Gagan Dev Riar from his predominantly theatre set-up. Yes, Gagan Dev Riar is a prolific theatre actor, and he’s worked with all the stellar luminaries of the theatre world. He’s also acted in a few films, Sonchiriya being the most well-known among them. Mukesh Chhabra was also the one who had cast Pratik Gandhi in the role of Harshad Mehta in Scam 1992. And the rest, as we say, is history! Let’s see if Gagan Dev Riar can replicate the success of Pratik Gandhi, and live the role he’s landed.
Scam 2003: The Telgi Story is the next series In SonyLIV’s Scam franchise, which kicked off with the superhit Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. It centres on the infamous counterfeit stamp paper scam of the 2000s, said to be a ₹100 billion scam. Abdul Karim Telgi was the mastermind of that scam. SonyLIV’s show Scam 2003 is adapted from the Hindi book “Reporter Ki Diary”, authored by journalist Sanjay Singh. Singh and Marathi writer Kiran Yadnyopavit are the scriptwriters for Scam 2003. Hansal Mehta, director of Scam 1992, returns for the series, but as showrunner this time. Scam 2003 is being directed by Tushar Hiranandani, who’s earlier directed ‘Saand Ki Aankh’.
