This is how you make a debut; this is how you make a statement. Godzilla X Kong is definitely taking the Monsterverse to a New Empire where they will rule with ease. The film collected $10M in previews, and that was definitely the forecast of the storm that was heading towards the box office.
Talking about the domestic box office, it grossed $80M in the USA and Canada market, but its brilliance lies in the international market as it capitalizes on the global popularity of Godzilla and the recent Godzilla Minus One.
Initially, in the domestic market, the film was projected to earn around $65M, but the previews hit it out of the park. Then it was predicted to reach around $85M as the film neared that sum easily.
Enough suspense!
In the international box office, the film grossed $194M, and as expected, the US and Canada came out as the major contributors. Then the China market grossed around $44M, and Mexico delivered $12.8M, but then we have a surprise entry.
India occupies the fourth place in the international box office as the country delivers a strong $5.5M, followed by the Britishers with $5.3M during the weekend.
How big of a deal is it?
Though Godzilla had a better opening, this astronomical number definitely revives the Monsterverse and the content which will follow this. WB managed to advertise it massively, and that is a sheer success. Now the stakes are definitely high for the studio.
Will the following films deliver? Only time will tell.
