Godzilla Vs. Kong’s Monstrous New Records At International Box Office!

The pandemic isn’t over yet. It is still going on, while some are recovering, others are falling prey to the second wave which have turned out to be even deadlier. Besides all this, people got a small window of time to finally unwind and relax and maybe go to the theatres and watch the new releases that have started to come out some time ago.

One of the biggest blockbusters of the pandemic is hands down Godzilla vs. Kong. The movie was released on March 24th internationally and on March 31st in the United States. The movie was released in 38 international regions in the beginning before it was released in the States. The movie has now set a brand new benchmark, as it recently crossed the $400 Million mark and as of Sunday, the movie reached the $406 Million.

Out of the $406 Million, $380 million came from the international box office in 41 markets. This weekend the movie was worth $5.7M internationally. China alone put together $183.1M through Sunday, which is now recorded as the best Hollywood release after pandemic and could still grow a bit during this week. The top 5 includes Australia ($20.1M), Mexico ($18.2M), Taiwan ($12.4M) and Russia ($11.7M).

Godzilla vs Kong is still going strong. The movie is followed by Mortal Kombats at the moment, which also is released by Warner Bros. But there’s also another movie catching up and that is “Demon Slayer”. The movie was released during the pandemic period last year in October and so far has become the highest grossing movie in Japan. The movie after 6 months of run has collected around $456 million worldwide.

Now, one might be confused as to why Demon Slayer is not regarded as the highest grossing movie because it clearly earned more. It is because the movie was released during the pandemic and not many countries at that point of time saw the release. For a long time, it was only released in Japan. Whereas, Godzilla vs. Kong comes at a time, when everything started to resume and was released internationally.

The trio of Godzilla vs. Kong , Mortal Kombat and Demon Slayer are racking up big numbers in the international box offices, marking the revival and return of movies in theatres. As of now, both Mortal Kombat and Godzilla vs. Kong released in India. There were talks going on that PVR would be the one to bring Demon Slayer to India, but at this moment there have been no announcements.

Also, it can be said that it is for the better if the movie isn’t released at the moment, as India for sure is going through one of the biggest health crises. India is the worst hit nation at the moment with the second wave of Covid-19.
