If you opened this article then let us take the liberty to assume that you are interested in Hollywood content. Moreover, you might have an idea of this year’s Oscars. If you do, then you must have come across an absolutely fantastic Japanese film called “Godzilla Minus One”. This Academy-winning film showed the power of great story and storytelling at a modest budget of less than $15 Million.
Then comes the high-budget American film called “Godzilla x Kong”.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is the newest movie in the MonsterVerse series, where big monsters battle it out. Directed by Adam Wingard and made by Legendary Pictures, it follows on from “Godzilla vs. Kong.” This time, Kong meets more of his kind in the Hollow Earth, but there’s trouble brewing.
The cast includes famous faces like Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Dan Stevens. They’re joined by some new characters too. In the movie, Kong and Godzilla have to team up to stop a really bad guy and a powerful Titan from messing up the world’s climate.
The film has been opened on Rotten Tomatoes and what are they saying? Well, Critics are panning it. By the time of writing this article, the film is certified Rotten at 57% score.
The top critics on the other hand have rated it at only 35%.
What is the audience saying? They are loving it as the score stands tall at 92%. Warner Bros, the studio behind the film, is also promoting the audience score.
So why is there such a contrast?
It is just another case of a commercial masala that the audience loves but the critics can’t seem to like. It would have the massy elements as we say in India.
One recent case in Hollywood is that of The Meg 2 which became highly successful at the box office. Let’s wait to see the wonders of Godzilla x Kong.
