The trailer of Adam Wingard’s Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is out now. Being the seventh instalment of the MonsterVerse franchise, the film will revolve around Kong, who teams up with Godzilla to take down an ancient threat. Though, many fans are wondering who will be the primary antagonist in the upcoming MonsterVerse project. Let’s find out!
According to several reports, the main villain in Godzilla X Kong is the Scar King. He is a gigantic ape, which is quite interesting considering that most of the MonsterVerse’s antagonistic creatures have been villains of Godzilla so far. This is the first time we will see Kong meeting his first true enemy.
Scar King is an ancient humungous ape and looks significantly bigger than Kong. In one of the scenes in the trailer, we can see the former looking down on humans on a beach. In that scene, humans look like ants, which gives a pretty good idea about his massive body size and shape. However, we are yet to witness his full body. In addition, he has red fur and glowing eyes, indicating that he may be harnessing energy from the Hollow Earth. He looks more savage and vicious than all the other monsters present in the film.
Moreover, it seems like Scar King is the ruler of the Kongs residing in the Hollow Earth. He will obviously have some of the Kongs on his side, making him more dangerous. With all the advantages Scar King has, we can see why Kong needs Godzilla’s aid.
Another theory that is gaining significant attention on social media is that Scar King killed many ancestors of Kong and Godzilla and forcefully took control of the Hollow Earth from them. We do not know if this is true or not, but we do know that Scar King is a force to be reckoned with.
Furthermore, Scar King is not a Toho antagonist like King Ghidorah, Rodan, Mechagodzilla, and more. He is an original character. Many thought the makers would choose a bigger villain than the last film’s Mechagodzilla (2021) in ‘The New Empire’. So, developing an entirely new villain is an interesting decision from the makers.
