The Monsterverse is stomping on the entertainment industry, and that is indeed exciting news for the fans. The Japanese wing managed to have an overwhelming performance in the awards show, and the American counterpart now manages to pull off the best film of the Monsterverse, at least that’s what the fans are saying.
But what’s the audience’s response?
Firstly, The New Empire is showing a major contrast in terms of ratings. The critics said it’s ‘Meh,’ but fans are labeling it as ‘magnificent,’ even WB is vocal about the audience ratings.
But it’s not just the audience’s love in the ratings section; they are actively going to theaters to screen the film. Talking about the Thursday previews, Godzilla vs. Kong managed to gross $10M, suggesting a bombastic weekend ahead.
In comparison, Godzilla, the debut film of the new Monsterverse, had a grand opening of $93M, which does look like a difficult milestone to touch, but then it all went down. Kong: Skull Island had an opening of $61M and was followed by Godzilla: King of the Monsters with $48M, and lastly, Godzilla vs. Kong had an opening of $32M.
As the industry is healing now, Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire might get to a good $55M-$65M. There is a possibility, albeit slight, that it might cross the threshold of $80M, but we all love to root for new records and underdogs.
