Alphonse Puthren made two unarguably trendsetter films in Neram and Premam and then disappeared from the film scenes. Fans and well-wishers of the director were elated when he announced his come-back with “Pattu”. The film had Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara in the lead roles. Unfortunately the project got delayed and that led to Puthren announcing his next “Gold” with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara in the lead. The team Gold dropped it’s quirky looking teaser on Tuesday. Actor-filmmaker Prithviraj took to Twitter on Tuesday to unveil the teaser of “Gold”.
The teaser opens to Prithviraj observing a gang of men doing some shady business. A suave and smart Prithviraj shouts at the gang and walks in slow motion cutting back to the gang’s reactions very much reminiscent of his character intros in Neram and Premam. In fact slow motion with a quirky pumping background score is a classic Puthren trademark. We are then introduced to Nayanthara having popcorns while giving a naughty sinister look at the camera. The teaser doesn’t give any clue regarding the plot of the film and this is a trait seen in all Alphonse Puthren film teasers.
Gold marks Alphonse Puthren’s comeback to cinema after a long gap of seven years. His last directorial was Premam in 2015, a film that broke records and catapulted Nivin Pauly’s stardom beyond levels. “Gold” is jointly produced by Supriya Menon of Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen of Magic Frames. The film marks Prithviraj’s first collaboration with Alphonse Puthren and first feature length collaboration with Nayanthara.
Prithviraj is gearing up for the release of “Jana Gana Mana” which is expected to hit the theatres in the month of April. While Nayanthara has her upcoming release in Vignesh Sivan directorial “Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal” co-starring Samantha and Vijay Sethupathi. The film is is set to hit the screens on April 28.
