We already reported earlier this year that Gossip Girl will be making a comeback. Well, not exactly a comeback “comeback”, but a major reboot is in the works that will be streamed on HBO Max. Gossip girl was probably one of the most loved and watched teen drama shows back in the days. When one talks about it and realizes that it’s more than 10 years, it really feels old. Gossip Girl set trends all over, most importantly fashion and friendship goals. Blair and Serena’s friendship examples are still given to this day and probably will be given till a long time. After “Friends”, it feels like Gossip Girl’s friendship examples were the most quoted.
Now coming to the latest reboot which is coming up, this will not have the same characters as before, at least that’s what has been planned till now. Co-executive Producer Josh Schwartz mentioned that it isn’t exactly a reboot in his twitter announcement and also during his time in Television Critics Association Press Tour, held in July 2019. From what can be assessed, it is more of a new age teen drama that is set exactly in that world, where Serena and Blair had their base earlier. It will introduce us to a fresh batch of elites from Manhattan and even probably Brooklyn, if sources are correct.
The basic story this time around might be about social media. 10 years ago, the social media scene wasn’t what it is today. Last time, in Gossip Girl, we saw an anonymous blogger who goes on to reveal the secrets of others but this time it is more about the characters themselves and their lives on social media and how they portray the lives in and out of social media. The team of the executive producers and both Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have agreed on this theme since it seems more relevant to the age at the moment.
Other than the basic outline of the story at the moment, we already know that the narration will be done by Kristen Bell like last time. Besides that, the cast for the show has already been casted and they are- Emily Alyn Lind, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Jonathan Fernandez, Jason Gotay, Thomas Doherty, Adam Chanle-Berat, Zion Moreno and Tavi Gevinson. The show has no release date at the moment or any other information regarding that, other than those a new image of the cast one the iconic steps of Metropolitan Museum of Art sent the internet into frenzy as that was the “hangout zone” for the earlier Gossip Girl cast.
Now, we need to wait patiently if this time the voice of the “anonymous” blogger will keep us hooked to the show.
