‘The Witcher: Blood Origin‘, prequel to the hit Netflix series ‘The Witcher’ has found its second lead in the ‘Game Of Thrones’ star Laurence O Fuarain. This six-part live-action prequel series is set in an Elven world 1,200 years before Geralt of Rivia and is about the events leading up to the Conjunction of the Spheres and the creation of the first witcher.
As per Netflix, the Irish actor will play the role of Fjall, who hails from a clan of warriors, sworn to protect the King. The death of a loved one in battle, while trying to save him has left him scarred within. Fjall then sets on a quest for redemption, fighting alongside unlikely allies as he carves a path of vengeance across a continent in turmoil.
Laurence O’Fuarain (‘Vikings’, ‘Game Of Thrones’, ‘Black 4’) will join Jodie Turner-Smith (‘Queen & Slim’, ‘Nightflyers’) who will be playing the lead role of Éile, an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess. She has left her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. But a grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.
Declan de Barra who is the showrunner for ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’, will also executive produce it alongside The Witcher’s creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Hivemind’s Jason Brown and Sean Daniel and Platige Films’ Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko. Andrzej Sapkowski, author of ‘The Witcher’ book series on which the Netflix show is based on, serves as the creative consultant for the prequel series.
‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ is one of the two spin-off series ‘The Witcher’ that Netflix is planning to make. The other is an animated offshoot titled ‘The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf’, focusing on the origin story of Geralt’s mentor and fellow Witcher Vesemir.
While Henry Cavill starrer ‘The Witcher season 2 is expected later this year, no official word is there on ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ release date. Though speculations are that the spinoff prequel series will come out sometime in 2022.
