Sony Pictures has dropped the official trailer of Gran Turismo, starring Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, and Orlando Bloom.
Based on Polyphony Digital’s video game series, Gran Turismo brings the real-life story of Jann Mardenborough to the big screen. He is a gamer-turned-professional race car driver, better known for being the youngest winner of the GT Academy competition (2008-16), where he defeated 90,000 players to emerge victorious. Some players in this competition, including Mardenborough, were bestowed a golden opportunity to earn a real-life professional car racing career with Nissan.
Gran Turismo is the next PlayStation gem that has received the cinematic treatment after Uncharted (2022), starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
Madekwe plays Mardenborough in the upcoming Sony feature, whose gaming abilities pave the way for his real-life professional car racing career. Along the way, he receives the support of his trainer, Jack Salter, played by Harbour. On the other hand, Bloom portrays a motorsport marketing executive, Danny Moore, a character based on GT Academy founder Darren Cox.
The trailer faces some turbulence during its take-off but starts to gain stability as it progresses, and yes, it looks entertaining and thrilling.
Besides the leading trio, Gran Turismo stars Djimon Hounsou, Geri Halliwell, Thomas Kretschmann, and many more talents. The flick is a Neill Blomkamp (District 9 and Elysium) directional. It will arrive in theatres worldwide on August 11. Stay tuned for more updates.
