2024 is slowly and stealthily turning out to be the year of musicals in mainstream media with acclaimed released titles like ‘Música’ and anticipated upcoming ones like ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ and now, Universal’s Wizard of Oz adaptation ‘Wicked’.
L. Frank Baum transformed the world of children’s fantasy literature with his 1990 story ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’. Since then, the book has been made into musicals and films multiple times. This time, however, it will make its way back to the big screen with a never-anticipated grandeur.
With the Grammy-winning superstars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo at the crux of the plot in their respective pink and green ensembles, the stellar cast also includes Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage and more.
For the first time in its remake history, the musical will be released as a duo. The first installment on November 27. The latter, following closely a month later as the perfect Christmas gift on December 25. The musical, set to follow its main girls Elphaba and Glinda all the way to Emerald City, will be accompanied by a riveting background score that includes songs like “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good” – beloved musical songs, recorded by the leading ladies themselves.
With soaring expectations, audiences of all age groups are looking forward to witnessing the newest rendition of this ago-old saga!
