Popular medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is returning for Season 20 very soon. With the arrival of the new season, Grey’s Anatomy will officially become the longest running prime time medical drama in the history of US television. Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 Episode 1 premieres on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) on 14th March, 2024.
As for its India release, Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 will premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar as always. The release date of the first episode, of course, shifts to 15th March in India, owing to the 12-hour gap in US and India times.
Now that the release date of Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 is revealed and out of the way, let us tell you that there’s a lot of churn in the popular series for the upcoming season. With both Ellen Pompeo and Kelly McCreary exiting the series in the previous season, Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 will be the first season not to feature both actresses as series regulars ever since they entered the show. Ellen Pompeo will continue to narrate the episodes and act as executive producer too. In a recent development, it has been revealed that she’ll even reprise her role of Meredith Grey in four of the ten episodes of Season 20.
This brings us to another major change in Grey’s Anatomy Season 20. At only ten episodes in the season, it will be the shortest season of the series till date, notwithstanding the 9-episode debut Season 1. Finally, Meg Marinis will be the new showrunner of Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 after the departure of long-time showrunner Krista Vernoff last season.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 will bring back two of the remaining members of the original cast – James Pickens Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber and Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey. Other returning long-time cast members in Grey’s Anatomy S20 include Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver, Camilla Luddington, & Caterina Scorsone as Dr. Owen Hunt, Dr. Teddy Altman, Dr. Jo Wilson & Dr. Amelia Shepherd, respectively. Alex Landi as Dr. Nico Kim, along with new cast members Harry Shum Jr., Adelaide Kane, Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho and Midori Francis will also return.
In a delightful surprise for fans of the series, Jessica Capshaw will make a surprise return as pediatric surgeon Dr. Arizona Robbins in the fourth episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 20. She was last seen in Season 14 of the series.
