Good things don’t last forever! This quote suits the current mood of the MCU fanbase after the heartbreaking announcement of James Gunn in his recent interview with Deadline’s Hero Nation Podcast. The helmer of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie series has confirmed that the upcoming Vol. 3 will mark the last appearance of the Guardians together.
“This is the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians,” said Gunn in his interview. “It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark, and different from what people might be expecting it to be. I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”
Maybe the right time has arrived for Gunn to bid farewell to the GOTG series. He has a perfect opportunity to conclude his Marvel superhero trilogy on a high note.
The Guardians’ director has been teasing the deaths of some important MCU characters in the forthcoming third instalment of GOTG. Various reports have hinted at Drax’s demise in the movie. Dave Bautista revealed his loss of interest in portraying Drax a long time ago. The WWE superstar turned actor is 53 years old now. We cannot expect him to keep playing the superhero character forever.
Apart from Drax’s death, Nebula’s departure from MCU is also on the cards. However, we will witness some new things in the film. Will Poulter has been roped already by Marvel Studios to play the live-action version of Adam Warlock. Furthermore, Sylvester Stallone will get more screentime in Vol. 3. He will play a high-ranking ravager named Stakar Ogord.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will release theatrically on May 5.
