Disney Plus Hotstar has just dropped the trailer for its new original movie, titled ‘Gulmohar’. The film premieres on Disney Plus Hotstar on 3rd March, 2023.
The ‘Gulmohar’ trailer gives us ample hint of the drama that is the centre piece of the film. Sharmila Tagore plays the matriarch of the Batra family, who, one fine day, delivers a bombshell on to her family members when she reveals that she’s sold off their family home, and the family will have to move lock, stock and barrel to Pondicherry.
Manoj Bajpayee plays her tormented son. He’s father to estranged son, played by Suraj Sharma, and finds himself caught between two generations, clueless on what to do. Simran Bagga plays his wife, who’s fed up with her dysfunctional family and their daily bickering.
The story of Gulmohar outlines how the trauma of losing the only home they’ve always known will either further break up the Batra family, or bring them closer. ‘Gulmohar’ marks the screen comeback, after 12 long years, of veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, and will also be her digital debut. The film also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Simran Bagga, Suraj Sharma, Amol Palekar, among others.
The official synopsis of Gulmohar reads – “Gulmohar revolves around the multi-generation Batra family, who are all set to move out of their 34-year-old family home. This moving out triggers a re-discovery of the bonds that have held them together as a family, while grappling with personal secrets and insecurities”.
Gulmohar is written by Arpita Mukherjee and Rahul V Chittella. It is directed by Chittella, and also produced by him, along with Star Studios, Vikesh Bhutani and Shujaat Saudagar. The film is presented by Star Studios in association with Chalkboard Entertainment and Autonomous Works.
