Before James Gunn wiped the slate clean to make space for his refurbished DCU, there was the DCEU. The franchise is notoriously famous for making the fans excited for future projects, just for the sand castle to fall into rubble. From Man of Steel to Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom. The DCEU had 16 projects that made it to the theaters. Fun fact: the number of projects that never made it to the theaters is actually higher.
And just as you were starting to believe in the new DCU, Gunn dropped a statement that clearly sank hearts. Gunn has already introduced the slate of the first chapter in these two years of him being the top guy at DC. Some of these adaptations have been a dream to many. But guess what? Not all of them will make it.
Gunn states, “Just to clarify, I said everything we originally announced was still in development, not that it’s still coming.” And while he clarified that he would “never put a half-assed script in production just because it was announced,” it is still heartbreaking how the studio plays with fan expectations.
As of now, the projects that are actively under work include Superman, Creature Commandos, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Lanterns.
The future of the Batman Brave and the Bold movie, along with the Wonder Woman show, the Teen Titans project, and the Swamp Thing movie, is now under speculation for many. It would be harsh for the fans who have once again invested themselves in DC to realize that the movie they were looking forward to might not get made.
If anything, Gunn should deliver what he has promised, or the DC curse will continue with DCU.
