MiramaxTV is looking to develop the Guy Ritchie surprise hit ‘The Gentlemen’ into a television series. The action-comedy featured Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam and Hugh Grant in prominent roles with Guy Ritchie penning the script. Ritchie is set to write and direct the upcoming series, with him, Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies to be executive producers.
This will actually make it full circle for ‘The Gentlemen’, which was pitched as a television series in the beginning before it became a feature.The film was made with a budget of $22 million (compared to his latest ventures) and it returned a profit of over $110 million, making it the ninth highest grossing film of 2020, so far. This critical and commercial success was jam packed with classic Guy Ritchie montages and jump cuts which was backed by a solid script and great acting. And of course, music – brilliant music as per usual.
Marc Helwig, the new Head of Worldwide Television of Miramax has been attempting to mine their extensive film library to create a television series and ‘The Gentlemen’ has joined the 1997 Horror/Sci-Fi ‘Mimic’ in the development phase. Helwig has expressed his delight in working with Ritchie, and hopes to take ‘The Gentlemen’ forward to the world of elite television.
‘The Gentlemen’ movie follows American expat Mickey Pearson (McConaughey), who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever,many ‘interested parties’ plot, scheme and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him.
