We at Binged had earlier informed our readers about stellar director Hansal Mehta working on a series for Netflix India. The series is titled ‘Scoop’, and it boasts an interesting ensemble cast to boot. Well, now we have confirmed information on the OTT release date for ‘Scoop’ on Netflix. All episodes of the real life crime and character drama ‘Scoop’ will premiere on Netflix worldwide on June 2, 2023.
Scoop is directed by Hansal Mehta, whose maiden web series ‘Scam 1992’ became a huge hit on SonyLIV. The series is written by Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul and Mirat Trivedi. ‘Scoop’ is based on the real life trials and tribulations of journalist Jigna Vora, and is adapted from her book, ‘Behind Bars In Byculla: My Days in Prison’.
‘Scoop’ tells the story of an ambitious journalist who is falsely implicated in the murder case of her fellow journalist and is thrown into prison. The drama comes from the fact that the crime reporter is incarcerated in the same prison as the hard-core criminals she once reported on. The story is based on the sensational daylight murder of Mid-day reporter Jyotirmoy Dey, aka J-Dey; and Jigna Vora’s imprisonment after being accused of conspiring with gangster Chhota Rajan in the murder.
After she was acquitted of the murder charge, Jigna Vora wrote her memoirs of her time in prison, which forms the basis of the series. Actress Karishma Tanna plays the central character of the accused journalist in Scoop.
Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Tejasvini Kolhapure, Shikha Talsania, Deven Bhojani, Tanmay Dhanania, Inayat Sood, among others, form the rest of the cast of ‘Scoop’. Interestingly, the music for Scoop is composed by Achint Thakkar, whose theme music for Scam 1992 became a big hit.
